Theme Week How the World Appears: Perception, Creation, and the Mystery of Existence

This ten-part seminar series explores one of the most fundamental yet rarely asked questions: What is the world, really? Drawing on the central debates of the Advaita tradition, Chandra guides participants through different views on the relationship between perception and reality—and why this question matters far beyond philosophy.
Between the perspectives of Dṛṣṭi-Sṛṣṭi-Vāda (perception creates the world) and Sṛṣṭi-Dṛṣṭi-Vāda (the world exists independently), a precise analysis of human experience unfolds. The series reveals that the world is neither a mere illusion nor fully independent, but an appearance grounded in consciousness itself.
Through classical examples such as the dream state and subtle teachings like vivarta (apparent manifestation), Chandra leads to a radical insight: the perceiver, the perceived, and the act of perception are not separate, but expressions of a single field of awareness.
At the same time, the series remains deeply practical. It explores what these insights mean for how we live—how we relate to our bodies, our relationships, our ambitions, and the uncertainties of life.
In the end, the teaching points not to a conclusion, but to a recognition: what the Upanishads call sat-cit-ānanda—not as a belief, but as the ever-present nature of reality itself.
